Description
This stately shabti, rendered in stone with gilded accents and black painted details, hails from Egypt's Late Period. The shabti's solemn visage and crossed arms, which clutch the traditional farmer's tools, are a timeless nod to its intended role: serving its noble owner in the afterlife. Hieroglyphic inscriptions along its body invoke spells from the "Book of the Dead," ensuring the shabti would fulfill its duties in the Field of Reeds. Its golden sheen, now muted with the patina of age, would have once gleamed in the dim light of a tomb, a small but sumptuous piece of eternity carved for someone of high status.
