Description
This terracotta shabti stands as a silent guardian with the head of Anubis, the jackal-headed god associated with mummification and the afterlife in ancient Egyptian religion. The deity's commanding presence is captured in the alert ears and watchful eyes, emblematic of Anubis's role as protector of graves. The intricate hieroglyphs that adorn its form are prayers and spells to aid the deceased in the hereafter. This figure, with its well-preserved iconography, is a classic example of funerary art from Egypt's Late Period, a tangible link to the spiritual and ritualistic practices that were central to ancient Egyptian culture.
