Description
Signed "Knight" and illegibly dated lower right, oil on canvasboard. View of the Ohio at Cincinnati/Covington, with the sidewheeler "Ohio Belle" in the foreground and the Roebling suspension bridge in the background. Framed, 14.5" high, 26.5" wide. Way's Packet Directory lists the Ohio Belle as having been built in 1855 in Cincinnati, and ran Cincinnati/New Orleans until the Civil War when she saw charter service, and then was sold. It was during her life that the Roebling Suspension Bridge connecting Cincinnati to Covington was constructed (completed in 1866). This later view clearly takes some liberties with the timeline and the boat, but is, nonetheless, an interesting view.
