M.E. Johns NYS&W Railroad and Chief Justice Charles Evan Hughes Correspondence with Signatures
New York Susquehanna & Western framed signature from M.E. Johns and Republican Charles Evans Hughes. Mr. Johns was the superintendent of the New York Susquehanna & Western from 1904 to 1914. He attended the same grammar school as Charles Evan Hughes in the mid 1870's. Hughes would go on to become a member of the Supreme Court as the 11th Chief Justice of the United States. This includes a letter between Hughes and Johns discussing their grammar school. The letter is signed by Hughes while a second signature from Johns is included on paper below. Also included is additional items from the scrap book of M.E. Johns explaining the connection.
