A letter from former President Woodrow Wilson to Edward N. Hurley of the United States Shipping Board regarding the character of one John A. McGregor. 1p on White House stationery, measuring 7" x 8.75", dated September 6, 1918, Washington, D.C. Areas of docketing, creasing, and minor toning throughout. Boldly signature. PSA slabbed and authenticated to the overall size of 9.75" x 13.25".
In full: "Thank you for your letter of yesterday. The purpose for which you intend to send Mr. John A. McGregor is obviously necessary and a perfectly proper one, and I am perfectly willing to accept your judgement of his fitness for the task." The President is likely referring to the same John McGregor who served as head of the Union Iron Works who, during his tenure, oversaw the construction of numerous submarines intended for the war effort.
