Description
Pre-Columbian, El Salvador, Maya, Copador type, Late Classic Period, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A hand-built pottery bowl of spherical form with a deep basin surrounded by a thick rim. Highly burnished and decorated with red, black, and light orange pigment, the bowl features solid red stripes along the rim and base as well as a trio of abstract, left-facing monkeys with extended arms along the exterior walls. Size: 7" Diameter x 4.625" H (17.8 cm x 11.7 cm)
Provenance: Private Reinsmoen collection, Clear Lake, Iowa, acquired through descent from Robert Anderson, acquired prior to 2000

Condition
Minor nicks and abrasions, with light fading to pigment, and scattered earthen deposits within basin, otherwise intact and very good. Great preservation to simian motif across exterior.
