Description
Inscribed, "Abraham Krider / 5th Bn. PA Arty. / 1778" (identified with Abraham Krider, 1742-after 1790, a resident of Philadelphia Co., who served in the 5th Battalion, Philadelphia County Militia, under Capt. Henry Nevel) engraved with a Pennsylvania Dutch style stylized plant in a vase, two eagles resting on the branches, and a crowned eagle above; a large thinned cow horn, fitted with a wooden butt cap secured with brads and slightly later nails, centering a rose head nail; with a large iron staple toward the mouth, and with a leather carrying strap; fitted with a turned horn spout, bearing traces of green paint, with threaded cup at tip for measuring larger amounts of powder, 17 in. L.

There is a filled crack extending from the butt along most of the body; some worming; chipping around the edges of the butt
