Description
Engraved with initials, "S. D." (identified with Sankey Dixon, 1759-1814; served in 6th PA Regt. 1779-1782; in 1st PA, 1783, and in the Legion of the U.S., 1793) engraved all around with various classic Pennsylvania Dutch motifs including a heraldic eagle, lobed pinwheels and plants, an angel, and a bird; cow horn, the butt with domed mahogany cap secured with small nails, 7 5/8 in. L.
Provenance: From the estate of a Maryland collector. Purchased from William Guthman, 2005. Reportedly previously found and owned by George Allen, Kennett Square, Pa., circa 1980. Accompanied by copies of relevant research and documents.
