Description
Inscribed around the edge of the butt, "ISAAC SNEDEKER : JULY16 1824" the year clearly having been altered from an earlier year (identified with Isaac Snedeker, 1729-1809, from Middlesex Co., New Jersey, a private in New Jersey militia) further engraved with scene of Native Americans using dogs to hunt a stag, and with a stylized willow tree above a tombstone marked "IS / 1814;" apparently a late 18th century horn, the engraving altered to commemorate a death in 1814 and its anniversary in 1824; cow horn with engrailed spout, the butt with a wooden cap secured with brads, 6 1/8 in. L.
