Description
Native American, Southwestern United States, Arizona, Springdale, Ancestral Puebloan (Anasazi), Mogollon, ca. 1175 to 1300 CE. A charming pottery vessel in the form of a bird with a voluminous body hand-painted in elaborate black-on-white decoration. Formed from red clay using the coil and scrape technique, the adorable avian displays a stylized head protruding from one side with target motif eyes and a pointed beak, while a flared tail projects from the other and a broad mouth with a flared rim at the top opens to the hollow interior of the vessel. The upper half is adorned with mesmerizing spiral, zigzag, steppe, and geometric motifs. A lovely example of St. John's pottery! Size: 9.9" L x 12.75" W x 6.8" H (25.1 cm x 32.4 cm x 17.3 cm)
