Item Details
Description
Jeremiah Ward is listed as born in 1721 in Hampton Falls, Rockingham, New Hampshire. He is listed in the Connecticut Revolutionary War Military Lists, 1775-83 as a "Marien"(Marine) in Commander Parker's Company on the ship "Oliver Cromwell" between 1777 and 1778. The tapered two-stage body measures about 10 - 1/2" across the bow. Tapered spout section is followed by three relief rings. Slightly convex wooden butt with hand forged iron staple and with remnants of an old label and the white number "629". The main body is engraved "JEREMIAH / WARD:HIS / HORN 1756". The horn is decorated with pinwheels, folky tulips, two primitive birds, geometric designs, and other floral designs. Plug retained by wooden pegs. CONDITION: Retains a pleasing dark honey patina, some carry wear to left side. A very interesting 18th-century powder horn.
