Description
A British clandestine suitcase-version radio set type 3 Mk. II "B2" with the serial number "78373"The three-part radio set includes a power supply unit (PSU), receiver (RX) and transmitter (TX). In terms of appearance, in excellent condition (completeness and function not checked, however). The rough lacquer housing with screw-mounted type plate and operation panels. The switches and knobs made of Bakelite. Also comes with a rough lacquer box, labelled "Fix Key", containing accessories such as headphones, Morse key, radio valves, radio tubes, various mains adapters and cables. The box also containing two Michelin maps of "Paris-Reims" and "La Rochelle-Bordeaux", both in a scale of 1:200,000, plus, in the same scale, a silk escape map of Northern France, along with radio codes on a silk scarf and in extremely small, printed format, both concealed in a box of "La Cocarde" matches. The radio set fixed in the suitcase by two linen straps. The brown suitcase lined with printed paper, brown lacquered metal fittings on the corners and edges. Both locks fully functional, however the key has been lost. Brown leather carrying handle. Manufacturer's label "Veritable Fibre Vulcanisée - Lyon", dimensions of the suitcase 49.5 x 34 x 18 cm, weight approx. 8 kg. The clandestine radio set Type 3 Mk II, commonly also known simply as "B2", was designed by Captain John Brown of the British secret service SOE (Special Operations Executive) in 1942 and issued to agents, resistance groups and special forces operating in territory occupied by Germany. It had a radio range of some 800 km, with a frequency range of between 3.1 to 15.5 MHz. Moreover, the "B2" could be operated not just from the mains, but could also be powered by a built-in 6V battery, making it suitable for mobile use.Extremely rare find, especially as it comes with the original suitcase.Condition: II
