Following his death, Bernard Montgomery Law was appointed in his place. Very rare war date printed D.S., 1p. oblong 4to, [n.p.], February 9, 1942, recommending a British soldier for an award. In part: '...On the evening of 21.1.42...Walker was sent forward to pick up some wounded men...On his way back...his ambulance became bogged in sand...[he] set about to dig his vehicle out when he was machine gunned from the air...[he] took the patients out, carried them to cover and returned to try and recover his vehicle. Again he was attacked by aircraft...he returned again and after digging and using sand tracks for four hours he succeeded in getting his ambulance on a track...By his gallant conduct Dvr. Walker has set a splendid example of determination and courage...recommended for the award to the Distinguished Conduct Medal...' Signed at the conclusion by Gott as lieutenant general. Very fine.
