Zugeschrieben wird das Blatt einem anonymen französischen Künstler. - Der vorliegende Holzschnitt wurde veröffentlicht in: Barthélemy de Chasseneuz. Catalogus gloriae mundi. Lyon, D. de Hary, 1529. Unser Exemplar jedoch ohne Rückentext und auf Pergament gedruckt. Das Blatt scheint identisch mit einem Abzug des British Museums (Inv. 1938,1118.2), das jedoch verso den Buchtext trägt. Nach Angaben des Museums befand sich der Original-Druckstock im Mai 1939 bei J. Rimell & Sons. - Das Blatt zeigt den kaiserlichen Rat in einem langen, palastartigen Raum, in dem der der Kaiser des Heiligen Römischen Reiches sowie die Könige von Frankreich und Spanien thronen. Sie sind umgeben von Adeligen, die je nach Rang auf Bänken zu beiden Seiten und im Vordergrund geordnet sind. Unklar ist, ob es sich bei dem Kaiser um Karl IV. oder Maximilian I. handelt. - Verso mit Spuren früherer Montierung. Mit geglättetem vertikalen Mittelfalz. Etwas knitterig. Kleine Anschmutzung im Motiv unten rechts. Kräftiger Abzug.(The Imperial Council.) Circa 1529. Woodcut on vellum. - With the printed initials of Albrecht Dürer and the date 1501. The sheet is attributed to an anonymous French artist. - The present woodcut was published in: Barthélemy de Chasseneuz. Catalogus gloriae mundi. Lyon, D. de Hary, 1529, but our copy has no verso text and is printed on vellum. The sheet appears to be identical to a print in the British Museum (Inv. 1938,1118.2), which, however, bears the book text on the verso. According to the museum, the original printing block was held by J. Rimell & Sons in May 1939. - The sheet shows the Imperial Council in a long, palatial room in which the Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire and the Kings of France and Spain are enthroned. They are surrounded by nobles, who are arranged on benches to either side and in the foreground according to their rank. It is unclear whether the emperor is Charles IV or Maximilian I. - Verso with traces of earlier mounting. With smoothed vertical centrefold. Somewhat creased. Small soiling in the motif lower right. Strong print. 450
