Dow, apparently recording a lecture by Chaplain Charles Cardwell McCabe on the infamous Libby Prison. 4to, 10 leaves, blue ink on ruled paper. ********* Dow signs the end as 3rd NY Lt. Artillery, with a postscript hoping that this report will be accepted. Charles Cardwell McCabe distinguished himself as a chaplain during the Civil War. He was imprisoned by the Confederates at Libby Prison in Richmond, Virginia. After the war, McCabe lectured all over the U.S. on "The Bright Side of Life in Libby Prison," as seen here. Accompanied by a typed transcription.
Condition
Ink faded but legible, paper lightly soiled and toned, stain and corner-chip to final leaf, creases flattened, as-is.
