Description
Bronze, gilt. Asia, Thailand, 19th to 20th century
HEIGHT 29,3 CM
From a German private collection
The motif of ''the Buddha striding'' has become very famous and was developed during Sukhothai, which was a Kingdom prior to Ayutthya.
The bronze figure sensually rendered in a moment of striding, Buddha clad in a thin textile that is caressing his body (of gender-neutral form), one hand raised in the abhaya mudra, the other hand hanging flank of his body, the head topped with a flame (all hinting to Sukothai); gilt and mounted on a soapstone base.
