Finely decorated teapot of good quality
This sterling silver Victorian teapot was made in 1851 in Dublin by the Irish silversmith Robert W. Smith. It has a circular melon shaped form onto a circular spreading foot. The eight segments as well as the swan necked spout and hinged domed cover are adorned with a foliate decoration. To either side of the teapot there are shaped cartouches, one vacant and the other depicting an engraved lion with trident. The cover is crowned by a finial in the form of a petal and leaf. The c-shaped acanthus leaf handle is fitted with two insulating rings made of bone.
The pot is hallmarked on the handle and cover with the date letter ‘f’ (1851 ) as well as on the underside with duty mark, Dublin city marks, maker’s mark ‘RS’ and date letter ‘f’.
The pot is in good condition with light signs of wear. It measures 19 cm in height. The weight is approx. 803 grams.
