Mayor of New York JAMES DUANE Signed Document
JAMES DUANE (1733-1797). Member of First Continental Congress, Mayor of New York, Signed the Articles of Confederation.
July 16, 1784-Dated Rare and Original Manuscript Document Signed, “Jas Duane, Mayor” as Mayor of New York City, New York, measuring 12” x 8”, Very Fine. Being an order of the City of New York Common Council, authorizing payment to the estate of Stephen Terhune for glazing work approved April 19, 1776 and additional work done after that date. Countersigned by Robert Benson as Clerk of the Common Council. Choice Handmade rag period paper, folds, well written with a huge signature. An historic document signed by a great American patriot.
JAMES DUANE [1733-1797] was a patriot and leader of New York during the revolutionary war. He was a delegate to the Continental Congress, and would have signed the Declaration of Independence but was also serving at that time at the New York State Constitutional Convention 1776-1777. He later signed the Articles of Confederation, and was Mayor of New York City 1784-1789.
