‘Eine rührende Geschichte’ is a fantastic storybook by Horst Janssen from 1972. The different variation possibilities of the images always create new fabulous creatures. The book was published by Hower Verlag in Hamburg in 1973 in an edition of 1000 pieces. The convertible book comprises ten with colored chalk colorized ballpoint pen drawings with handwritten text on wove paper. The content is about the life and nature of a quick-change artist.
The book is titled and dated on the cover page of the cover in crayon and pencil ‘1 rührende Geschichte / 24 12’. It is dedicated, signed and dated inside the cover in pencil ‘liebevolle distanze your Horst 14 8 73’. A printed edition ‘1 ge-pferdete für Bettina’ is enclosed, which is monogrammed and dated in crayon ‘JH 73’. The cover of the main book has got a tear of approximately 2 cm length in the left center, which does not affect the depictions. The sheets are slightly toned. The condition is besides that very good. The dimensions of the sheets are each 14.8 x 21.3 cm and the paperbacked envelope measures 29.6 x 21.3 cm.
Horst Janssen (1929-1995)
The German artist Horst Janssen completed his education from 1946 to 1952 at the National Art School in Hamburg under Alfred Mahlau. Then Janssen worked until 1956 for the colored paper factory owner Dessauer, in whose workshop he learned the technique of lithography. In 1957 he also learned etching under Paul Wunderlich. In the course of his very fertile creative period he received many awards and is considered one of the most important graphic designer and artist of the postwar period. (tm)
