Two bronze amulets in form of the gods Harpocrates and Min-Amun

A similar amulet in form of Min-Amun is located at the Pelizaeus-Museum in Hildesheim (Germany) (340, 342)
Parallels: a littlee bit larger depicitons of the god Harpocrates in G. Roeder, Ägyptische Bronzewerke, Glückstadt 1937, §64 – 66, Taf. 6

These two bronze amulets in form of Egyptian gods date to the time of the Late Period to the Ptolemaic Period (664–30 BCE). The first amulet depicts the god Harpocrates. He is wearing the white crown of Upper Egypt and a youth side lock on the right temple. He is holding his right arm to his mouth. The legs are optically separated from each other by a faded line. On the reverse is a separately crafted eyelet to wear this small, simply crafted amulet on a chain. Harpocrates was the son of the gods Isis and Osiris, who were worshipped as the perfect family.

The second figure depicts the god Min-Amun as ithyphallic mummy, an overall quite rare version. On his head, he is wearing the double feather crown, typical for this god. In his right hand, he is holding a frond that is set away from the body. The frond is stabilised by a supplementary little horizontal jetty that is connected to the body. A small, subsequently attached knob marks the erected phallus. A separately crafted eyelet is attached to the reverse to wear the piece on a chain or the like. Min-Amun combines the features of the gods Min (procreation and fertility god), and Amun (wind and fertility god).

Both bronze amulets are in relatively good condition, with normal traces of age like abrasion of the material. Both figures are complete. The face of Harpocrates is strongly ablated. The details of the Min-Amun figure are almost entirely ablated. The bronze figures are covered with a crusty patina. Partially, a slight beginning of malachite-coloured patina is visible. The dimensions of the Harpocrates amulet are 3.6 x 0.9 x 0.7 cm, and the dimensions of Min-Amun are 3.6 x 1.2 x 0.3 cm (width x height x depth).
