Description
PASSPORTS ISSUED TO AUSTRIAN JEWS Pair of passports issued to Austrian Jews after their country had been annexed by Germany both passports stamped with a red ""J"" denoting their religion. Robert and Olga Hahn are each issued a German ""Reisepass"" one number apart in Vienna on Sep. 22 1938 six months after the annexation. Their names are written on the first page to which are added ""Israel"" and ""Sara"" names added to those of Jews to further identify them for persecution. The passports permit ""Inland"" travel as well as travel to Yugoslavia Italy Belgium France and Palestine. The couple report to police in Vienna twice more and have their passports stamped and on Jan. 20 1940 obtain a visa to sail from Trieste to New York- an effort which it appears was successful as there are no further entries. Very good.
