Rare Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Gemel, Connecticut origin, circa 1825, conjoined ovoid jug with semi-squared spouts connected by a strap handle, the shoulder, handle, and joinery between the jugs highlighted in light cobalt, the midsection of each jug with light cobalt dashes. A rare and highly desirable form, surviving in remarkable condition. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, found years ago in the Huntington, Long Island, NY area. Essentially as-made condition with an in-the-firing separation to portion of juncture between jugs (typical of this form), and salt drips to one jug near base. Handle in difficult-to-find untouched condition. H 8 1/8".
