Description
Pratt Pottery Works (English (Staffordshire), 1775-1885), circa 1800s. Two Prattware pitchers, creamers or small jugs comprising a baluster form earthenware pitcher with foliate-molded handle, the body with rings and stylized foliage in a band under the rim, over scenes of a boy and girl at play, the scenes impressed "Sportive Innocence" and "Mischievous Innocence" in low relief to the sides within heart-shaped cartouches, under sprouting branches, above a band of vertical leaves; painted in typical Prattware hues between brown line rims; the other a pearlware glazed molded pitcher polychrome enameled and molded with gadrooning at the neck over a raised molded border of grapes and leaves over a bottom border of raised fish scale motif. Both pitchers apparently unmarked. Approximate height of 'Sportive Innocence" 4.8", width 5.25", depth 2.25". Approximate height of grape leaf pitcher 4.6", width 5.5", depth 3.75". Provenance: From the Estate of Mary L. Haugk, Lawrenceville, Georgia.
