Item Details
Description
The first handwritten letter is five pages in length and appears to becoming from 1933. It is discussing money troubles and he is trying to console his wife and telling her that something will turn up and not to worry. The trip he is on he was contractually obligated and could not get out of. He goes on to say "...you will have to sacrifice a couple of stories to see me through 1933". By 1934 things will be good again, maybe long before that." He further tries to console her with"...Look at it from another angle - the angle that I am worth $3,500,000 in paper." Signed "Doc"; The second letter of two pages is written on the same day and is telling Dolly that he regrets sending the first letter and how he worries for her with "...suppose Dolly got into a worse jam than ever - and the trouble killed her or broke her down?" He then tells her he has been away for over two months and has only heard from her once. and "No news is not good news." He ends with explaining why he took the trip, "This sort of thing is less for my health, my life, my work, and if you can only keep me writing and fishing we will win out in the end." "I love you dearly, Zane". Both letters with old paper clip marks, else Very Good plus condition with usual folds.
