Description
Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Jamacoaque (Jama Coaque) culture, ca. 500 CE. This is a wonderfully expressive figural urn, a seated male with obvious genitalia and a simian face. He holds one hand to his mouth, tasting with his extended tongue; his facial expression is wide-eyed and innocent. The Jamacoaque are well known for their mold-made pottery portraits of individuals, although this one seems to have taken a fantastical, transformative style. Size: 7.75" L x 7.5" W x 7.75" H (19.7 cm x 19 cm x 19.7 cm)
