Description
T.S. Eliot was an American born British writer often regarded as "one of the twentieth century's major poets". He was a great contibutor to the Modernist poetry movement, creating some of the best known poems of the English language, such as "The Waste Land" (1922), "The Hollow Men" (1925), and "Ash Wednesday" (1930).
William Butler Yeats was an Irish poet and one of the foremost figures of 20th century literature and poetry. In the early phase of his career, Yeats was fascinated by Irish legends and the occult, both of which showed in his work. His poetry would later grow more physical and realistic, renouncing the transcendental beliefs of his youth.
John Donne was a late 16th and early 17th century English poet who is considered the pre-eminent representative of metaphysical poetry. His poetry is noted for its vibrancy of language and innovative use of metaphor, all in a strong and sensual style. His body of work includes sonnets, love poems, religious poems, Latin translations, epigrams, elegies, songs, satires and sermons.
John Keats was an English poet and one of the main figures of the second generation of Romantic poetry. It was not until after his death that he would become one of the most beloved of all English poets. Keats was known for employing sensual imagery and accentuating extreme emotion through the emphasis of natural imagery.
William Wordsworth was a major English Romantic poet who, with Samuel Taylor Coleridge, helped to launch the Romantic Age in English literature with their joint publication Lyrical Ballads.
