Item Details
Description
10 Persian Qajar As Nas Playing Cards. Framed 10 rectangular hand-painted playing cards from different sets, in ink, watercolor and gold on papier-mache under lacquered varnish. As Nas cards are rectangular in format, and relatively small, for example 4 x 6 cm. Like Ganjifa cards they are generally hand painted, although some later examples use a collage technique to add a ready-made printed image onto the painted background. Its popularity kept growing between the 1700s and the 1800s, two centuries during which Persia had frequent contact with Western countries. In frame measures 10x8x.75". Weight is 12 oz.
