Description
18th Dynasty, New Kingdom, 1479-1425 BC. A composite scarab with abdomen, wing case, head and legs modelled to the top; the underside engraved with the figure of Maat seated and holding an ankh on her knee and with feather to the top of the head; in front cartouche with the the throne name of Tuthmosis III, 'Men Kheper Ra'; above the winged sun-disc and below the hieroglyph for 'lord.' 2.47 grams, 19mm (3/4"). Property of a London gentleman; previously in the Mustaki collection; acquired from Egypt in 1948.
