Description
This is a rare original authentic Hardware Shoe by Hamilton, Brown Shoe Company double sided flange sign. The sign is from the late 19th Century to early 20th Century and shows overall very good to good condition for its age. The sign reads, "Hardware Shoe / Wears Like An Anvil." and shows the early "HAMILTON, BROWN SHOE CO. MAKERS / TRADE MARK REGISTERTED / KEEP THE QUALITY UP." Each side has the same graphics. The sign shows a metal construction and is a flange sign that would have been mounted to a wall in a mercantile, haberdashery, general store, or other early establishment. Hamilton Brown Shoe Co. was also known for their "American Lady Shoe" and American Gentleman Shoe" brand of "America's Finest Footwear" with some of their early litho advertisements selling in excess of $4,500. The sign shows bright graphics with red and black lettering. The piece has two holes added to adhere the sign to a wall in two fashions. The rare piece measures 19 5/8"L x 7.75"H with the flange being 1 5/8".
