Description
A Batocera Longhorn Beetle anchors this distinguished assemblage created by artist, naturalist and bestselling author Christopher Marley. It includes a coveted Alpine Longhorn Beetle from Slovenia and is punctuated by ruby dung beetles from Japan and Indonesian navy ladybird beetles. As noted by the artist in his bestselling book BIOPHILIA, Abrams Books, 2015, the singular characteristic tying this study together is also its namesake: oversized antennae. Longhorn Beetles are usually characterized by extremely long antennae, which are often longer than the beetle's body. The scientific name of this beetle family (Cerambycidae) comes from Greek mythology: after arguing with nymphs, the shepherd Cerambus was transformed into a large beetle with horns. 16"x 20" White Mat with Black Frame. ; Artist: Christopher Marley ; Issued: 2014
