Description
**First Time At Auction**
Magna Graecia, Southern Italy, Daunia, ca. 4th century BCE. A lovely wheel-thrown pottery vessel of a graceful form with a small footed base, wide body, and rolled shoulders, a funneled rim, and a pair of applied handles. The lower body, foot, and rim interior display a concentric banded design, and the shoulders exhibit a sinuous motif of vines and leaves, all in caramel and light-coffee hues. Some leaves display their original dark coloration, and the underside of the rim has a repeating teardrop motif as well. A lovely example! Size: 7.75" W x 6.625" H (19.7 cm x 16.8 cm).

Condition
Small area of repair to rim with small chips along break line. Surface wear commensurate with age, small chips to rim and foot, stable pressure fissure on bottom of foot, with fading to pigmentation, otherwise very good. Light earthen deposits and nice mineral deposits throughout.
