A PAIR OF CHINESE MING DYNASTY STYLE PARCEL GILT POLYCHROME CARVED WOOD STANDING COURT FIGURES, PROBABLY LATE MING (1368-1644)/EARLY QING (1644-1912) DYNASTY, one with a square form hairdo and the other with an arched hairdo, holds a lotus bloom, both dressed in flowing traditional Hanfu robes, on brass, demilune, relief lotus petal, and Greek key patterned bases with incised scrolled tendrils, surmounted by halo incised with scrolling tendrils and lotus blooms, one figure has a single hand painted character verso. Height: 8 3/8" Width: 3" Depth: 1 3/4"

Heavy losses of paint and gilt, including abrasions, scratches, and chips, figures have some patina, soil, darkening of some pigments, and one figure with some losses at the proper right side of his hair, and the other figure now lacking the object it once held, and a consistent darkened patina throughout the bases, which were likely added to the figures in the late 19th century, otherwise in good to very good condition, wear commensurate with age.
