ULYSSES GRANT
Ohio 1822 – New York 1885
Long autograph letter signed by the US Army General and 18th President of the United States, dated "St. Petersburg, 7 August 76", to his daughter Nellie Grant, who had married the Englishman Algernon Sartoris two years earlier. After the end of his second presidential term Grant embarked on a world tour with his family that will last more than two and a half years (1877 - 1879). In Russia, Tsar Alexander II sent an imperial carriage to escort the Grant family to the Summer Palace. As a former president, Grant was often greeted with great enthusiasm by foreign heads of state. Four pages (11.3 cm x 17.5 cm) in English, small tears and slight traces of glue.
