Item Details

Description

Tall Standard glaze vase decorated with a full standing portrait of Chief Black Bird of the Sioux complete with headdress painted by Grace Young in 1900. Marks include the Rookwood logo, which indicates the date, shape 856 C, incised “Black Bird Sioux” and having Ms. Young’s incised monogram. There is also a wheel ground X although we find no obvious reason for the piece to have been designated a second. There is fine overall crazing and some short, light scratches in the glaze. Height is 12 7/8 inches.
