Colonial Pennsylvania Style Turned Cherry Wood Spice Jar
c. 1770 Colonial Era, Pennsylvania Style Treenware Turned Cherry Wood Spice Jar, Choice Extremely Fine.
A great high quality early turned wooden ware and Treenware measuring 6.25" tall x 3.25" in diameter at its base. The entire Spice Jar design was made out of a single piece of cherry wood and made with a removable top/lid. This entire example is made of native American PA. cherry wood, having untouched surfaces. Its top is all original and retains its choice original turned finial. It also has nice turned and incised lines for added decoration. There are No repairs or restorations. There is an trivial old age or shrinkage crack on the lower portion of one side and another shrinkage crack in the top, both adding to its originality Overall, it is still very stable and strong as these fine cracks are quite common in pieces turned from a single piece of wood. There is some typical light wear and imperfections with age having a rich uniform natural patina, and is a wonderful example for display.
