Description
Cold War Spy, Francis Gary Powers Signed Bank Check

Fantastic autographed signed check, 6" x 2.75". Dated "Apr 25, 1975", and signed by Francis Gary Powers as "Francis G. Powers" in the amount of $100.00, "One hundred and no/100". Fine condition with cancellation holes not affecting the signature.

Francis Gary Powers was a distinguished pilot for the CIA's U-2 program during the height of the Cold War. Powers was arrested after his spy plane was shot down while flying a high-risk reconnaissance mission over Soviet airspace and was ultimately tried, convicted and put in a Soviet prison for espionage. The design of this 50 ruble depicts the revered motifs and characters of the country at the time of Powers U-2 incident.

Power's incredible story took place in the early beginning of the cold war and during the creation of the Berlin wall (1961). This phenomenal period in history was wonderfully depicted in a Steven Spielberg's classic "The Bridge Of Spies" in which the full ambience of the cold period, the poverty, the fear, the governmental oppression and the building of the Berlin Wall allowed the viewer to perhaps more fully comprehend this incredible era and put Power's CIA mission into perspective.
