Description
**First Time At Auction**
Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Sumatra, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A personal knife known as a badek (also badik) that is also called a butterfly knife due to its petite size. The forged-steel blade has a single-edged design with a thick spine and ribbons of lighter nickel material hammered into the graining. The wooden handle features a dramatically curved profile with an abstract 'beak' on the end, and the nickel silver spacer cap is adorned with petite grooves. The ornate sheath bears three slender rings as well as a pair of foliate caps formed from copper with a layer of 50% silvering, and a backswept guard protector features incised windswept decorations. Size (w/ sheath): 2.75" W x 7.3" H (7 cm x 18.5 cm); (blade): 4.6" L (11.7 cm)

Condition
Both sheath caps reattached to sheath body with light adhesive residue along interior gap. Minor abrasions to blade and sheath, with light encrustations to silvered copper sheath caps. Nice patina across wooden components.
