**First Time At Auction**
East Asia, China, Neolithic Period, ca. 3000 to 2000 BCE. A beautiful ceramic jar with a complex black- and red-pigmented geometric registers of rhombuses, stippling, linear, and zigzag motifs on both the rim interior and the exterior of the body. The vessel is defined by its petite flat base, rotund body, rounded shoulder, tall, flared rim, and pair of applied strap handles. This item would have served as an offering vessel to be placed in a tomb. Size: 5.25" W x 4" H (13.3 cm x 10.2 cm).
Provenance: ex-Davis collection, Houston, Texas, acquired before 2013 from various auction houses in London and New York

Condition
Restoration to portion of body and rim with resurfacing and overpainting along well-concealed break lines. Surface wear and abrasions commensurate with age, small chips to rim, handles, body, and base, with fading to some areas of pigmentation, and light roughness along base. Nice earthen deposits throughout.
