**First Time At Auction**
Oceania, Papua New Guinea, West Sepik River region, Kurungunam village, Urim peoples, ca. mid-20th century CE. A bulbous eating bowl known as a "kudruk," hand-built from dark brownish red pottery with a hemispherical form, a rounded bottom, and an annular rim that curved inward over a deep basin. The intricate exterior is deeply incised with undulating striations and geometric motifs formed from applied pottery cords with impressed segmentation and applied green pigmentation for further embellishment. Lucite display stand is for photography purposes only. Size: 6.5" in diameter x 6" H (16.5 cm x 15.2 cm)
Provenance: private Tucson, Arizona, USA collection, acquired between 1950 and 1985

Condition
Three collection labels on interior. Repair to rim with previous break line barely visible. Light chip to edge of shoulder. Expected light softening of incised details in some areas. Otherwise, great with lovely earthen deposits and liberal remains of pigment.
