Armenian ceramic plate, decorated with birds and vegetal patterns, inspired by the Armenian birds mosaic, discovered in Jerusalem in 1894. Painted and glazed clay. Marked on the back with indistinct mark. Apparenly, made by the workshop of David Ohannessian. Jerusalem, Palestine. Circa the 1920s.The Armenian pottery workshop in Jerusalem was founded in 1919, at the end of WWI, when the British invited the iznik master potter David Ohannessian to help with the restoration of the tiles of the Dome of the rock mosque in Jerusalem. Diameter: approximately 26 cm. Good condition, chips, wear.
