Description
Six Armenian ceramic plates, decorated with flowers and vegetal patterns. Painted and glazed clay. Marked at the bottom: Jerusalem, alongside the mark of the joint workshop Balian - Karakashian. Jerusalem, Jordan. Circa the 1950s. The Armenian pottery workshop in Jerusalem was founded in 1919, at the end of WWI, when the British invited the iznik master potter David Ohannessian to help with the restoration of the tiles of the Dome of the rock mosque in Jerusalem. The workshop produced ceramics in the traditional Iznik style.Diameter: approximately 18 cm. Condition varies, chips, scratches, one plate has a repaired break, wear.
