Description
A very rare old Toma Shrine figure / basket like object with carved wooden head attached to basketry vessel sealed with magic substances inside. The head is adorned with a bronze bell, has inset teeth and bone eyes, claw earrings and the entire object has wear and handling. The vessel does not appear to have been opened. The fetish measures 15 inches tall. Provenance: Collected in situ Lofa County, Liberia; C. 1960 by Rev. W. Adkins, Ohio.
