There are many auctioneers in the United States. But probably none have the depth and breadth of overall knowledge as Gerald W. Bell, Jr. of Falmouth, Maine. Gerald Bell started in the business when he was 11 years old and purchased his first antique - an old clock, from a neighbor’s garage. At the time, his parents opened a small shop in Eastern Maine in 1963 and Bell became enamored by the business collecting military items and unusual antiques. Throughout high school and college, Gerald Bell worked with his father in the auction business as a runner, bookkeeper and auctioneer. After graduating from the University of Maine in 1975, Gerald Bell embarked on a career of buying and selling antiques and operating an auction business in St. Petersburg, Florida. He was an aggressive advertiser and became primarily a house call - home buyer and door knocker and discovered countless treasures on the suncoast of Florida. In 1985, he returned to Maine. For the last 26 years, Gerald Bell has been an active auctioneer in the state of Maine, show dealer, antiques appraiser and for the several years ran an open retail antique shop. Most all merchandise Gerald Bell sells is from Maine and New England estates. He has always been known to have the freshest merchandise of the highest quality. Gerald Bell believes in representing merchandise honestly and being a square dealer. Many consider Gerald Bell one of the finest auctioneers in the state of Maine with a rapid delivery and wealth of knowledge for each and every item he sells. People have confidence that when they attend a Gerald Bell auction that the merchandise will be as he has described. So plan to attend a real Maine auction with a down home feel.
