25 Blythe Road
25 Blythe Road
Originally part of the great complex of Blythe House, the Edwardian Baroque portal of 25 Blythe Road juts out in the sharp bend of the road, opposite the new West Hall Entrance of the Olympia Exhibition Centre. 25 Blythe Road was founded in 2007 by Thomas Del Mar Arms, Armour and Militaria specialist, who left Sotheby's two years earlier to start his own auction house in the same subject, keeping the association with Sotheby's. Since then he has been joined by Charles Miller a specialist in Maritime and Scientific Models, Instruments, Objects and Fine Art, followed by Matthew Barton, a Silver and Objects of Vertu specialist who is now branching out into Jewellery and Porcelain. Thomas and Matthew worked at Sotheby's, Thomas was head of his specialist department and Matthew ran the valuations department at Olympia. Charles ran his own department at Christie's South Kensington. We are delighted to announce the launch of our British and Continental paintings online sales that are run by George Duckett. The specialist auctions at 25 Blythe Road offer great variety for the keen collector. From ivory ship dials to Royal pistols, silver cheroot cases to schooner models, paintings and rare objects can be purchased at all levels. Each specialist has an auction twice a year. Following three days of pre sale viewings, live auctions are held in the formal gallery of 25 Blythe Road, attended by the antiques trade, collectors, members of the public and museum buyers, with telephone, absentee and internet bidding available to those who cannot be present. Although 25 Blythe Road has no low value threshold (objects as low as £30 have been included in sales) substantial prices are also achieved. An Ottoman Turkish gilt copper shield sold for £210,000 in 2011 with Thomas Del Mar Ltd; a George V gold casket achieved £26,000 in Matthew Barton Ltd's auction and Charles Miller Ltd achieved a World Auction record with a remarkable Union flag flown at the Battle of Trafalgar which sold for £320,000.
