Professional, kind and thoughtful

My first time buying from Shapiro. Watching the auctions I was impressed by the degree of attention to authenticity. Very pleased with my purchase. Thank you!

I purchased a piece of comic art and was able to arrange a date and time to retrieve the item while I was in the area. Mr. Shapiro was accomodating and a pleasure to meet. They also had some beautiful artwork for sale in their gallery. I would not hesitate in doing business again with Shapiro Auctions.

A smooth purchase. Everything worked effortlessly and I never had any difficulty when phoning the auction house for advice.

This was my first experience with Shapiro they were very professional and efficient. Lots were just as described and ready when I arrived to pick them up.

Everything went smoothly with the auction and payment. The hitch came when one of the shippers recommended by Shapiro had poor communication and finally said it missed some sort of deadline for shipping, which I did not understand. I had to scramble to fine an alternate shipper.

The initial shipper I selected, Arrow services, turned out to be a waste of time. I contacted Shapiro Auctions about the problem and they solved it immediately by putting me in contact with one of their personal favorites. Dennis, the new shipper responded to my needs immediately and the dilema was solved straight away.

Completely unresponsive to lot winner question re attribution

Item as described. Coordinated well with buyer-chosen shipper. Shop around for local shippers. The least expensive option was a common national shipper not on the recommended shippers list. Would buy from them again.

COMMUNICATION AND EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE IS THEIR TOP PRIORETY

Shapiro Auctions did not call out the considerable pitting and rubbing on the clock’s trim pieces, and the photographs were taken to hide any disclosures of the abrasions or pitting of the brass/gold trim. Very dissatisfied with their shipper recommendations too, as the item arrived damaged.

I had to chase them for 2 months to get my items. Initial emails were not responded to (ever) and phone calls would take more than a full business day for a reply. Even after I thought they had all the information they needed to ship items, it still took 3 weeks before I contacted them again and items were shipped.

Item as described, easy check out. Somewhat slow but recommended and easy to work with.

I won a pair of fairly rare and relatively valuable Tiffany Studios grapevine bookends from Shapiro. Unfortunately, the photos and description did not reveal or disclose substantial damage and amateur repairs to the Tiffany bookends. I contacted Shapiro accordingly and we did come to an agreement on a partial refund, although I still feel a return and total refund was in order. This was not offered. I hope the partial refund will cover restoration, although even so, such a repair requires significant time and effort to realize. I did not receive what was represented in the auction. Misrepresentation of the piece was likely an honest mistake made by an amateur lister for the auction house, nevertheless Shapiro is responsible for the professionalism and actions of their employees. I won't bid on items from Shapiro again and I cannot recommend them.

There is a small deep scratch on the centre mirror, there is chipped section in the bottom beveled part of the mirror and there is a slight discolouration running in the centre of the mirror. I asked the dealer to send photos of the mirror because you could not see it in the listings pics. He did not disclosed the above described conditions. And they are not result from packaging nor shipping.

I write this review with great pleasure, both for the painting I won, which is even more beautiful than what I expected, and because the staff of the auction house have always supported me and answered me quickly and efficiently. It is not obvious to have such a satisfying experience with an auction house. Especially overseas. Thank you very much

I would like to emphasize that the problem was with the 3rd party shipping company (UPS) and that my complaint with Shapiro Auctions. My complaint with the auction house was satisfactorily resolved by them and they were attentive and helpful during the process.
