Witherell was offering a very seldom seen, except perhaps every few years at Sotheby's or Christie's, a very large and beautifully carved fin de siecle Meerschaum pipe deaccessioned from the now shuttered 'Ernst Muzeum' in Budapest in the late 1920s. I am not a rich guy, but I collect old Meerschaums. When I saw this item my heart jumped into my mouth. I did not expect to win but I did. Now I have my singular museum worthy masterpiece! ❤ ️ 🙏 💎. Witherell was great, timely communications, easy to complete payment, and shipping. And since this was a fragile and valuable antique, may I say the shipping insured was fantastic, packed like a museum conservator! Just a great experience for an average Joe who snagged a rich man's treasure! ❤ ️ 🙏 😁

Ask Art (the standard of the industry for art descriptions) uses the size of the art work without frame. Which virtually every legitimate auction house does. By adding the frame to the dimension of the work you are representing the work as larger-thus inflating value of the work to your advantage. More square inches!-RIGHT-Paintings are valued by square inch virtually on every site. Your half-truth was costly and added value in your favor. I will never buy from you again!!

Witheralls Summer Auction, Lot 368 Victorian Hatpins with Several Figural Pieces The Facts: I was notified on July 16 I had won the auction and an invoice was sent, which I paid by check on July 18 and received a sales receipt for on July 22. The check was cashed on July 25. On July 26 I received a call telling me there had been a mistake and I was not the high bidder and the item had already been sent to another client, whom the caller seemed to know as a regular bidder and who had purchased all or most of the other hatpin holders with hatpins. A reimbursement check was sent to me for the full amount of the payment on July 29. Of course I was shocked when I was told what happened but what could I do? I was only interested in one particular hatpin and related that to the caller from Witheralls and he said he would contact the buyer and see if he would sell that particular hatpin to me. We had a couple conversations back and forth and he seemed sure the buyer would sell it to me but that hasn't happened. It was a most disappointing and unsatisfactory experience. The actions of Witheralls are questionable and suspicious. I wonder if what Witheralls did is legal? Sandra L **********
