Our auctions in Munich take place six times a year at our headquarters in Theresienstraße 60. In order to make our offer and its submissions accessible to an international audience, we publish all objects with detailed descriptions and photos on our homepage. We produced comprehensive catalogues which we ship worldwide. In addition, we publish the highlights of the auctions on social media and advertise in daily newspapers and art magazines.
We class ourselves as a traditional auction house, whilst using the latest technology to maximise accessibility for customers. Bidders can submit bids via our homepage as well as participate in the auctions live via online auction platforms such as Liveauctioneers or Lottissmo.
Art Nouveau - Art Deco The art nouveau and art deco will be auctioned in May and November. We are particularly successful in offering French glass art. This is demonstrated by our high turnover for vases by Emil Gallé, Daum Frères and Lötz. Special auctions of Lalique complete the range of glassware. Another area of our expertise is our collection of art deco sculptures. By being the competitive leader, our house has been able to secure the sales of designs by Henry van de Velde.
Design - Murano Glass We regularly hold special auctions on design themes of the 20th century, which focus on a country or a design school. At the end of the year, we will be presenting particularly important furniture and lighting in our 'Highlight Auction'. In keeping with our focus on Murano glass Askan Quittenbaum presented a comprehensive catalog, which was published in 2012 by DuMont Verlag.
Modern and Contemporary Art We sell Pop Art particularly successfully. Besides we are well suited for auctioning Picasso ceramics. In addition, the artist postcards by Karl Schmidt-Rottluff and Ernst Ludwig Kirchner were among the highlights of our Kunstofferte in the past.
Author’s Jewellery Our passion for author’s and artist’s jewellery began with a collection of kinetic jewellery by the goldsmith Friedrich Becker. Once a year we dedicate an auction to this exciting topic.
Collections We have a special expertise when it comes to auctioning a whole collection. We guarantee an optimal content and photographic representation of your collection objects in a separate catalog.
How it all started The history of the art shop dates back to 1956, when Ellen Piper Quittenbaum, the mother of today's managing director Askan Quittenbaum, opened a gallery for African art in Dusseldorf. In 1968 she founded a gallery for jewellery, Art Nouveau glass and antiques in Hamburg. Askan Quittenbaum entered the business in 1992, and together they led the gallery Quittenbaum in Hamburg-Blankenese, focussing on Art Déco, design and Murano glass. In 1998, the company headquarters moved to Munich, and on 11 May of that year, the first Art Nouveau auction was held. The following year a Bauhaus auction was held comprising around 400 objects, which laid the foundation for the house specialising in modern design.

The outstanding manufacturer of masterful glass objects, Fontana Arte Milano, is represented with a rare coffee table. Ettore Sottsass tall totems are icons of modern ceramic art. Limited to only 20 pieces each, the totems are the largest ceramics Sottsass ever designed, reaching heights of over 200 cm. Hundred times Hundred: We see a colorful mix of patterns in the complete series of 'Make Up 100%' vases by Italian manufacturer Alessi. In the field of lighting design we offer some famous models. An eye-catcher is the 'Gherpe' light by the designer group Superstudio. Record players, radios and speakers - Italian designers and manufacturers have produced top performances in this field as well!International Design
On October 11, the second design auction will start with over 200 lots by international designers UK One of the most important objects in the auction stems from British architect and industrial designer Ron Arad. In his London workshop One Off, the armchair 'Little Heavy' was made of welded sheet steel only in a small series. The seating object is patinated in bronze and can be purchased at an estimated price of 22.000 - 30.000 EUR; a rare and highly valued collector's item. FR As the auction in June already clearly showed, design from France is particularly popular. More than any other designer, Philippe Starck currently stands out: his ?Illusion' glass table, designed in 1992 for Fiam, was knocked down in early summer in our house for the record price of 30,000 EUR. Now, we are pleased to offer you another example of this piece of furniture, which was only produced in a small series, and we are looking forward to active bidding battles. USA Although most of the highlights of this auction come from the European area, it is also worth paying attention to the US-American design. A real eye-catcher, the '670' lounge chair by Charles and Ray Eames, was produced in a very unusual version with pink leather by the Milanese company ICF Cadsana. NL Eye-catchers from the Netherlands and more; a small selection of neon light objects by the Dutch artists Aldo van Nieuwelaar and Jan van Munster and their New Zealand colleague Bill Culbert.Murano Glass
Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, the Arts & Crafts movement was to breathe new life into artistic craftsmanship in the second half of the 19th century. The highest artistic achievements came around 1900 in the era of Art Nouveau, which in part still recalled the craft roots from Arts & Crafts, but can also already be seen as a form of industrial design. In Italy, neither Arts & Crafts nor Art Nouveau were particularly pronounced, as one could already interpret from the Italian name for Art Nouveau, 'Stile Liberty?, after the exclusive London department store for arts and crafts. Italy was experiencing its very own renaissance of art, namely in the Venice of the 1920s. Milanese lawyer Paolo Venini opened a glass manufactory in 1921 and, following the example of international manufactories, hired contemporary painters, architects and designers. Five decades followed, during which the two great protagonists Venini and Barovier, but also numerous smaller manufactories, competing for beauty in a staccato change of shapes and colors, created an inconceivable variety of ever new glass vessels. There will be over 200 important lots of Murano glass for sale on 12 OctoberBidder Reviews for Quittenbaum Kunstauktionen GmbH (54)
