BLACK ART AUCTION is the only auction house in the world solely dedicated to selling African American Fine Art. BLACK ART AUCTION is owned and operated by Thom Pegg. Mr Pegg currently owns TYLER FINE ART in St Louis, Missouri, and has maintained a gallery in St Louis for the past 30 years. He has also been sole owner or a part owner in galleries in Los Angeles, Chicago, and Indianapolis. He has been involved in the fine art auction business for 25 years, working with independent auction houses: Toomey (Chicago), Treadway (Cincinnati), Heritage (Dallas), and Ripley (Indianapolis). For the past 8 years he has directed specialty auctions of African American Art with these independent auction houses. Tyler Fine Art has authored and published several books on the work of African American artists Thelma Johnson Streat, Charles Sebree, Hayward Oubre, James Van Der Zee, Cliff Joseph, Carl Pope, Jerald Ieans and Phillip Hampton. This past year, the gallery published three books concerning the Melvin Holmes Collection of African American Art, including a book devoted entirely to the work of Sargent Johnson, as well as represented the sale of the collection. Books scheduled for publication in 2020 include John Rozelle and Evangeline J. Montgomery. This past year, Tyler Fine Art represented the sale of several important works from the Camille O. And William H. Cosby Collection. In 2019 alone, Tyler Fine Art has, through auction or private sale, sold works by African American artists to the Art Institute of Chicago, New Orleans Museum of Art, Delaware Art Museum, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Columbus Museum (GA), Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston and the Petrucci Foundation. BLACK ART AUCTION is headquartered in Indianapolis, IN. The annual schedule for BLACK ART AUCTION will be 2 auctions held in Indianapolis, and 1 auction each year in a remote location (e.g., Houston, Atlanta, Washington DC, Chicago, New York). The remote sale will be a smaller, boutique sale, and will likely have a specific theme or be a single-owner collection. All BLACK ART AUCTION sales will be live on location and live on the internet. Bidders may participate in person, by telephone or absentee bid, or via Internet.
