Black Art Auction

Black Art Auction is the only auction house in the world solely dedicated to selling African American Art. Thom Pegg, the founder and chief specialist for Black Art Auction, has been involved in sales and scholarship of African American Art for the past 25+ years. He formerly owned Tyler Fine Art in St Louis, which last year evolved into Black Art Auction, Private Sales Division. He also independently directed multiple auctions for other houses before founding Black Art Auction in 2020. In all, Mr. Pegg has been involved in the auction business since 1995. Black Art Auction holds on average 4-5 sales annually, and bidding is facilitated across three platforms as well as telephone and absentee. Black Art Auction offers free appraisal of art created by African American artists who have a generally recognized reputation in the market. Black Art Auction, Private Sales Division offers significant works directly to collectors and institutions outside the auction venue. Black Art Auction accepts consignments for both auction and private sale, and Private Sales Division purchases art outright. Since its founding, Black Art Auction has achieved numerous record prices at auction for works by black artists. Black Art Auction also regularly presents scholarship to increase the awareness of lesser-known black artists and shares these publications at no cost to the public.
