Quality and Top Notch Responsiveness
Just had my second group of purchases from Tidewater. Very responsive to all my questions, bent over backwards to work with us on pick up. Love our purchases. Will continue to use them for future sourcing. Hard to beat value and quality. Looking forward to future auctions!

The item was not as represented.
I am an antiques dealer of over 40 years and I’ve never had such an unpleasant and unprofessional experience with an auction house before. The item I bid on and won was described as such: “Gorgeous 19th Century Paint Decorated Neoclassical Style Chest with Faux Marble Top”. The term “style” clearly relates to the word “Neoclassical” and not the age of the piece. The item I received was almost new and a complete copy. I assumed it was an oversight and asked the gallery to refund the purchase and was told that it was entirely my mistake. I purchase dozens if not hundreds of items at auction each year and never had any auctioneer try to defend such a misleading description. Had they wanted to describe it correctly they should have said something like “Contemporary Paint Decorated Chest in the 19th Century Neoclassical Style”.

This guy wouldn’t pay his bill until we had to threaten a dispute. Below is a direct copy and paste from this man’s email address where he clearly misread the description and then had to make a big stink just because he couldn’t admit he wrong I suppose Copy and pasted from his email-“To Whom, The description clearly says “19th century commode in the Neoclassical Style”. Clearly he misread the description. And the part he left out where we still tried to give resolution-I’m happy to take the piece back and run it through our next sale for you and will even do that for 0 % commission. I’m also happy to send my employee back to your house to pick the piece up, again at my expense, even though this could have easily been put right back on the van when you told josh you didn’t want it. But I’m not able to refund your money given the consignor has already been paid and we clearly said STYLE in the listing. In the future please ask if you have any questions. As a third generation dealer, I can tell by the paint alone that this piece isn’t period and I would have happily shared my thoughts on the piece if you had asked I can’t comment much past this given that we are now going to litigation but thought the rest of the story should be given.

Outrageous shipping quote
I purchased a small grouping of costume jewelry and paid for my $25 group + fees promptly. I inquired about shipping costs, and was told yes it costs extra (of course) but no quote. I then emailed again with my address and was quoted $25 to ship what would easily fit in a bubble pouch and ship for $5-$6. When I said that the amount didn’t make sense, Tidewater Galkeries stated they were making no money on the item and that is what they charged. With no other options for such a small, light item, I chose not to pay DOUBLE for my item and firefighter my paid purchase. Clearly Tidewater needed to make extra $$by charging me a high shipping rate for an item that weighed far less than 1 pound. Avoid this auction house unless you have a written estimate for shipping BEFORE bidding.

Karen is mostly correct here, except for the part where I told her to reach out to the ups store in colonial heights for another quote. Our commission on this $25 lot comes out to $5.75, and that’s before you consider the labor of photographing and listing this lot. I’m so sorry that Karen thought we should ship her items for free. If our $25 minimum fee for shipping is too much for you, stick with the flea markets

Highly recommend, will continue to buy.
Auction House was very helpful and understanding when pick up time/date had to change. Picked the chair up and what a warehouse! Treasures as far as the eye can see. Looking forward to the next auction as there were many treasures to acquire. They even had a small table that I won back in November that I forgot to pick up that i got today with the chair. Highly recommend and will continue to buy many otems from the Auction. Cheers!

Easy and good deals
Know the owner well. I contacted about some items i had questions on. And bought a load. Being a dealer/designer myself always looking for new sources. I made arrangements to pick up myself in a few weeks. Everything gone great. Only criticism is I’d like dimensions in the description rather than the pics (mostly) of a tape measure

This woman pitched a fit because I wouldn’t meet her shipper at 9 pm.

Can really find some sleepers here!
Glad I came across this auction as I found some great things at reasonable prices concerning how much antiques are these days. Looking forward to the next one for sure! Cheers

Careful of the lister.
Don’t expect to receive answers/help with this lister. You can expect rudeness, name calling and threats.

This woman was a nightmare. She bought a set of suitcases for $25 and then pitched a fit about shipping, which has nothing to do with us. She tried to pull a sympathy card by saying she was "trying to rebuild her possessions after hurricane Ian" and when called out on why she would be buying a bunch of vintage suitcases instead of furniture if her property was destroyed, she admitted she made that up. When she admitted she couldnt afford shipping she said she would dispute the charge. I told her we would dispute her account so that other auctions would know how she behaves to which she replied-"I don’t care if you dispute my account. If dealing with asshats like you is what I would deal with by using LiveAuctioneers."

New Auction
They did a good job representing their pieces. Pickup was a dream. Wish they had put more pictures in of the tops but they answered my questions. Previewed in person. Very nice people.
