Hidden damage!
In the past thirty years collecting art, this purchase through Azca Auctions is by far my worst experience. When I first saw what I thought to be a very beautiful Murano aquarium I registered to bid. A good friend had also so we had the condition report that lead me to believe everything was good, only citing “minor scratches and scruffs.” Upon arrival I opened the box to find that there were well over 100 finger nail deep scratches all over the aquarium, so many sharp chips and the worst part was the artwork had been defaced as someone had tried to very deeply engrave a signature on the front over one of the main features of the aquarium and when that did not work it seems they tried to camouflage this with even more random engravings. The overall condition of the aquarium is absolutely shocking. When not lit from the back but during the day with natural lighting this defaced piece was quite depressing, looking more like a mural of engraved graffiti. Anzac Auctions became very hostile right from the beginning with comments like “buyer’s remorse,” etc. Months went by with over 50 emails and messages from me, alone, and about 60 hours of my time and immense stress and finally they agreed to take the very damaged and defaced artwork back, but then they wanted me to pay for return shipping from Australia to England. Then finally they agreed to pay for the return shipping. I would never trust this action house under any circumstance. They were so relentlessly rude and even passing this case from one employee to another, two of the founding directors left in the same week and another employee but two other directors were in the loop and very much a part of this from the beginning. No one should have to be treated as I was and worn down so much that I became sick. I have always purchased art for peace, tranquillity and to add beauty to my home not for months of dishonesty, belittlement and stress. This also marks the first negative review I have ever done in my life.

We are sorry to hear that you still feel as though you had a negative experience with us. When you found the item to not be in the expected condition (despite having not personally requested a condition report), as an act of good faith we provided a full refund and covered the additional cost of returning the item to us. The piece has since been sold to a happy buyer in one of our recent sales. We will continue to strive to provide the best possible service for our clients. Kind regards, Azca Auctions
